Altun Ha

Altun Ha is located 31 miles north of Belize City on the Old Northern Highway. A two-mile dirt road connects the main road to the site. The area around the Altun Ha is rich in wildlife including armadillos, bats, squirrels, agouti, paca, foxes, raccoons, coati, tyra, tapir and the white-tailed deer. Two hundred species of birds have been recorded and there are large crocodiles that inhabit the Maya-made water reservoir.

Altun Ha was a wealthy ceremonial center boasting two main plazas, thirteen structures (including the Temple of Sun God or the Temple of the Masonry Altars). Altun Ha is not very far from the Caribbean Sea and it formed part of a unique cultural zone along with other coastal sites. There are also no stelae at Altun Ha but the discovery of rich tombs indicates that the ruling elite enjoyed access to substantial amounts of exotic goods.

Cave Tubing

Our Belize Cave tubing tour is the most popular shore excursion tour in Belize. We offer you an unforgettable tour where you almost become one with nature while at the same time experiencing the ministry of the ancient Maya underworld where the Mayas once performed many sacrifice to the gods.

Caves branch cave is one of several subterranean sites cave that were carved out of the limestone foothills of the Maya mountains by the very active caves branch river. The site provides us with an excellent example of the erosive power of water, and the natural wonders of Belize. Archaeological investigations note that the ancient Maya visited the site to conduct important rituals. Today’s modern visitor enjoys a unique opportunity to observe the awesome geological features of the site, and to ponder the nature of prehistoric human utilization.

Bicycling Ambergris Caye – Bicycling is a great way to travel around the island or explore the town of San Pedro without worrying about finding a parking space. Bikes make it easy to visit nearby bars and restaurants. The North-South road offers easy cycling but beware of the golf carts and occasional trucks and cars – there is no bike path. Biking the beach is slower but a lovely way to see the coastline. Sometimes the soft sand means pushing the bike. When making the bridge crossing at the North end of San Pedro town, there is no fee for bicycles (US$2.50 is charged to golf carts).

Golf Carts are ideal for exploring the 25 mile (40 kilometers) long island. Whether venturing to the southern tip or the far northern end of Ambergris Caye, golf carts make the trip fun and easy. The golf carts can be driven beyond the paved roads to the hard packed dirt and sand roads. They make shopping easy and are convenient when stepping out for an evening of dinner and dancing where each restaurant and bar across the island has a different ambiance and cuisine.
